Desperados, A Game Worth Watching

There’s a whip over there, so feel free to grab it if ya don’t like this post, not that it’s gonna change anything… I’m going to mention a “strategy” game here on a mainly RPG site. But as you’ve probably gathered, or will, the news I sometimes post is a little more than you’ve bargained for or thought you’d get. Just call me an entertainment promoter… and lose the boundaries of the RPG-genre for a moment while I tell you about a fun game.

If you haven’t yet done so, I highly advise a download of the Infogrames’ Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive demo from Fileplanet.

It’s a western-based strategy game reminescent of the style and fun of Lucasarts’ first-person shooter Outlaws, but is completely isometric (with 3 levels of zoom), multi-reslolution capable, has many western themes and is a squad-type game. You’ll take a group of six western personalities (cliched but still very fun… for instance the main female Kate O’ Hara can use her mirror to reflect the sunlight into an opponents eyes, or “seduction”, while you have Doc McCoy who’s handy with healing and different weapons) into a mission where line of sight, tactics, sniping and teamwork will win the mission.

With some games you can sense the amount of pride that went into the details, and if you’ve ever wanted to rescue a town taken over from bandits, picking off a few at a time, rescuing the sheriff from inside his own jail, capturing the outlaw leader without killing him, sniping from a tower, ride a horse, etc… this game might be for you. Cartoony yet semi-realistic graphics, lots of scripted events (seems so from the demo at least)… it’s a game I’m very much now looking forward to following until release.

I really enjoy promoting well done games, but love to play them more. Here’s the Official Desperados Site for more. That wasn’t so hard was it? =)
