Dead Island Definitive Collection Released, Performance Analysis

Video game remaster have become increasingly common in the last few years, as proven yet again by the Dead Island Definitive Collection on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. What’s interesting, however, is that this remaster looks far more involved than they usually upscale done by most porting companies.

According to a recent report from Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry, both remastered games run on the same updated version of the engine developers at Techland would later use for the similarly zombie-themed Dying Light and sport a significantly updated graphical make-up in terms of lighting, particles and assets. This, however, also makes sure that the console versions never run above 30fps, and that the PC version sports significantly beefier requirements than the original game.

The console versions still offer up a large visual upgrade over the 2011 original worthy of consideration, though the PS4 game is the better of the two owing to Riptide’s superior performance profile We’ve yet to see a patch released on Xbox One, so right now the experience in the expansion isn’t as solid as in the first Dead Island remaster. However, if you’re after playing at 60fps with more responsive controls, the PC game has you covered, while consoles still deliver a nice upgrade over the last-gen releases.
