Dark Souls’ Balancing Will Be “Hard but Fair”

From Software’s Action RPG Dark Souls has often been reported as being difficult to the point of being unforgiving, which is a large part of the game’s appeal, but producer Kei Hirono felt the need to stress to NowGamer that the game is also fair, and that will be completable without having to resort to being helped by another player.

“We’re continuing to make this game difficult,” Hirono told NowGamer. “What we’ve shown so far is still in development and we are still in the process of fine tuning to make it, not fair necessarily, but achievable. The final product will, we think, be fair enough, but also difficult enough for people to continue to enjoy it. We’re hoping to tune it so that all users can have a sense of being able conquer the tasks.”

“The game will definitely be tuned so that all enemies can be defeated on your own, it might be more difficult, though it might be easier when you communicate with other players, but we won’t create a game that is impossible to complete on your own,” explained the producer. “It is an RPG so your character will grow and will become stronger and, perhaps, players will be able to come back and try a challenge later on once you’ve levelled up. Though, Dark Souls won’t depend on its multiplayer elements.”
