Crimson Alliance Reviews

We have rounded up yet another small batch of reviews for Certain Affinity’s simil-Gauntlet XBLA-exclusive hack’n’slash Crimson Alliance, ready for your perusal.

GameRevolution, B-.

Crimson Alliance isn’t a bad game, but with so many stronger dungeon crawlers around, it’s tough to recommend it wholeheartedly. Its distribution model might work for you if you’re tight for the virtual money or don’t care about the other character classes. There is a fair bit of content to hack your way through, if you don’t mind the repetitive and unfriendly-ness that this game hits you with if you decide to undertake your spelunking alone.

We Got This Covered, 3/5.

Overall, Crimson Alliance is a solid virtual co-operative fantasy affair. Though it doesn’t present an earth shaking amount of creativity, its tried and true formula works well using a short-burst structure. For the most part, I was quite impressed with the effort put into this game, although there are some issues which detract from the experience. Generally speaking, it’s a pretty good game, which is worth checking out for diehard genre fans. Those expecting the next revolutionary title won’t find that here, but they will be entertained by a decent, magical quest.

Gamers Daily News, 7.5/10.

Overall, the game is a great new meets old-fashioned dungeon crawl. Granted, you’re not really in dungeons much of the time which only goes to show off the artistic talent at Certain Affinity since, as I said, the environments are rich. It has that sort of Golden Axe feel with the mostly linear game levels and the hack and slash-ness of it all. But it is certainly challenging and entertaining.

The best bet is to try out the free version of the game and determine if you will like it. Play as each of the three characters to find you favorite style of play and then determine if you want to spend 800 MSP or 1200MSP. Our suggestion, if you like the trial, get the All Classes Pack, it’s a great deal and you’d probably find reason to play them all if you have friends online.
