Champions: Return to Arms Reviews

It’s been awhile since we’ve posted about any reviews for Champions: Return to Arms, so it’s time to catch up on a few we missed. The first is at GamingTrend with an overall score of 78%:

Overall, if you’re a hack-and-slash fan, odds are you’ll enjoy this title. It brings little new to the table to recommend it over the original, and there are a few glaring bugs, but the title as a whole is still fun if the genre doesn’t put you to sleep.

The second is at CG-Games with an overall score of “B”:

The controls are still solid and allow the players to guide their virtual counterparts with ease. Returning players will feel right at home, and new players won’t find themselves standing on the welcome mat wiping their feet for long before joining them. It is especially easy to switch from melee to ranged weapons or to cycle through assigned spells. Spells are assigned to a position that coordinates with the D-pad. While only two spells can be hotkeyed at once, it’s a breeze to reassign them on the fly.

The third is at Cheat Code Central with an overall score of 4.5/5:

Champions: Return to Arms is an excellent example of an action RPG in the tradition of Gauntlet. It’s not innovative which may be of concern to fans of the genre but newbies are well advised to get this game if they want to learn how to dungeon crawl with the best of them.

And the fourth is at Amped IGO with an overall score of 7.9/10:

If you thought Champions of Norrath had grown somewhat tired in light of the Dark Alliance titles, Return to Arms won’t change your mind. Still, what it lacks in innovation it more than makes up for in vibrant environments, a couple of fun new classes, and the same unique take on action role-playing that players crave. As long as you don’t expect much from the story, it should be perfectly easy to let the fun combat and addictive leveling keep you occupied for dozens of high-quality hours. The improvements may have been incremental, but the engine’s weary bones still have enough spunk to deliver a jolly good time once again.
