Diablo III Teased for Nintendo Switch

Blizzard Entertainment have dropped a not-so-subtle hint that Diablo III may be coming to Switch soon. In a tweet posted last night, a Diablo-shaped nightlight is switched on and off again—as I said, not-so-subtle.

The previous console ports of Diablo for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One were wildly successful, defying expectations and proving that one of the biggest PC franchises around could be adapted for the console market. A Switch port isn’t much of a technical problem, either; Nintendo’s latest system is a touch more powerful than the last generation of Sony and Microsoft consoles.

It would also be interesting to see such an organic, connected experience like Diablo III make its way to the Switch, a console that has thus far had a relatively weak online offering. And while it would be disappointing for a game that first released in 2012 to reappear at full price, it would certainly sweeten the deal if both the Reaper of Souls and Rise of the Necromancer content packs were included.

There are no other details yet, but considering the pace of the Switch’s success, I imagine it won’t be long before we hear more.
