For All the Days Gone By (Part 2) Walkthrough
Walkthrough
Outside the Courtyard, you’ll find Ryman nearby (Exit A). When you get close enough to him, he’ll join your party, and you’ll be able to control him in battle. Ryman is a Landed Knight, so it’s a good idea to let him tank for you. Ryman will also give you a flask of Flammable Oil, which you might find useful.
What you’ll need to do in this part of the quest is end the rioting. At numerous spots on the Riverspring map, you’ll find a conflict of some sort, and you’ll have to decide what to do about it. You’ll basically have three ways to go:
- If you mostly support the peasants, then you won’t have to fight Tyrek at the end (but you can if you want). Also, a hawker will appear in the marketplace starting in Chapter 4, and he’ll sell you a Trident Battlefork, The Three Wats’ Hat, and more.
- If you mostly support the nobles and guards over the peasants, then you’ll have to fight Tyrek and a pair of peasants at the end. Also, a new merchant will appear at the docks in Chapter 4, and he’ll sell you Lann the Clever’s Helmet, a Myrish Silk Cloak, and more.
- If you take a middle ground, then you’ll only have to fight Tyrek at the end. Also, a quartermaster will appear in the Courtyard starting in Chapter 4, and he’ll sell you Jon Connington’s Breastplate, Turnover Boots, and more.
Several of the decisions you make will determine who lives or dies. Many of the people who live will show up again (especially if you send them to the dungeons), so you should be careful with your actions.
Note: If you talk about R’hllor at every opportunity (possible locations include #8, #9, #10, #13 and #14), then you’ll receive the bonus trait Fanatic (+5% chance to resist the states “On Fire” and “On Wildfire”).
After dealing with the rioters, you’ll earn 300+ xp, and a guard will come running up to you to let you know that Tyrek is at the Courtyard entrance (Exit A). When you get there, Tyrek will confront you, and the outcome will depend on how you dealt with the rioters (as explained above). Regardless, at the end you’ll be given the opportunity to kill Tyrek, and if you do then you’ll find the light gloves People’s Friend on his corpse.
Now with the revolt over, you’ll receive 100 xp, and Harwyn will ask you to meet him inside the castle so he can talk to you about Gawen. The entrance to the castle is located inside the Courtyard. On your way there, you’ll run into your sister again, and she’ll apologize for how she treated you earlier.
Area Overview
1 – Dead Guard
On the dead guard here you’ll find a random piece of Sarwyck armor.
2 – Executions
When you approach this spot, you’ll see a group of guards preparing to execute some rioters, but they’ll allow you to decide the verdicts yourself:
- Alyn is guilty. He knows how the guard died even though he claims he wasn’t there.
- Brusco is innocent of doing anything during the riot, but he’s probably guilty of something.
- Mellara is innocent(ish) but the guard Pig Head is guilty of rape.
- Small Leo is innocent. He uses his knife at the butcher’s shop. If you set him free, then he’ll give you a Butcher Knife the next time you talk to him in the marketplace (#8, starting in Chapter 4).
At the end of this sequence, no matter what you decide, you’ll earn 200 xp.
3 – Gate
You’ll encounter a handful of peasants demanding food at the gate. Whatever you say to them will convince them to leave.
4 – Rioters (Killing)
At this spot some rioters will kill a guard, and then they’ll turn on you. You’ll receive 155 xp for dispatching them.
5 – Rioters (Blockading)
At this spot you’ll encounter some rioters blockading a pair of guards. After the battle, you’ll have to decide what to do with the leader, Little Bludgeon. You can let him live or die. Nearby you’ll find a guard corpse containing a random item.
6 – Rioters (Kicking)
At this spot you’ll encounter a pair of rioters kicking a prone guard. After the battle, you’ll have to decide what to do with the leader, Big Bludgeon. You can allow him to live or die. If you kill Big Bludgeon, then you’ll find an Old Braquemard on his corpse. Nearby you’ll find a dead guard containing a random piece of Sarwyck armor.
7 – Benfrey
Benfrey will tell you that a handful of rioters are stuck behind the gate to the east. If you order him to open the gate, then you’ll be forced to kill the rioters, but you’ll gain 80 xp.
8 – Marketplace
In the marketplace, one group of peasants led by Dough Ball will argue against the riot, while another group led by Preston will argue for it. When you arrive, you can either “suppress” Preston’s group (which will cause you to attack them) or you can promise more food for all of the peasants. If you choose the latter approach, then Preston will demand that you swear by the Seven. If you do so or swear by R’hllor instead, then the peasants will disperse. Otherwise, you’ll have to fight Preston’s group. If you fight your way out of the encounter, then you’ll earn 510 xp at the end. If you talk your way out, then you’ll only receive 200 xp.
9 – Rioters (Looting)
At this spot you’ll encounter a pair of rioters looting a dead nobleman. No matter what you say to them, they’ll leave peaceably.
10 – Rioters (Kicking)
At this spot you’ll encounter a pair of rioters kicking a prone guard. They’ll automatically attack you when you get close enough, and one of them will drop an Antique Sword. You’ll also get 45 xp for defeating them.
11 – Dead Guard
At this spot you’ll find a dead guard with a Rapier sticking out of his back.
12 – Rioters (Kicking)
At this spot you’ll encounter a pair of rioters kicking a prone nobleman. They’ll automatically attack you when you get close enough. After the battle, you’ll have to decide what to do with the leader, Meryn. You can allow him to live or die.
13 – Robin
On the western side of the docks, you’ll meet a man named Robin who is contemplating suicide. If you talk him out of it, then you’ll meet him again starting in Chapter 4 as a merchant in the Godswood.
14 – Hostages
At this spot you’ll find two noblemen and one noblewoman being held hostage by a group of rioters. You’ll have three options for how to proceed: you can pay for the hostages yourself, you can force the hostages to pay for themselves, or you can attack the rioters. If you choose the latter option, then the noblewoman will die, but you’ll earn 290 xp for being violent instead of only 200 xp for being diplomatic.
15 – Dead Guard
On the guard’s corpse you’ll find a random piece of Sarwyck armor.
