Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin – Pre-Order Bonuses and Where to Buy

With the long-awaited Elden Ring is finally live, it’s worth remembering that Square Enix will soon be releasing their own Soulslike game — Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin! The game will be both a prequel and a re-telling of sorts of the original Final Fantasy’s story, revealing the origins of how Garland came to be one of the iconic villains of the series.

The game is releasing on March 18, 2022, and will be available on Playstation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (through the Epic Games Store). There are three different versions of the game you can buy, and a variety of bonuses you can get for pre-ordering.

Version Differences

There are three versions of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin available — the Physical Edition, Standard Digital, and Digital Deluxe. The Physical and Standard editions come with just the game (plus any pre-order bonuses, depending on where you order from).

Meanwhile, the Digital Deluxe edition comes with the following extras:

  • Season Pass that gives you 3 additional missions: the ‘Trials of the Dragon King,’ ‘Wanderer of the Rift,’ and ‘Different Future.’
  • Digital Mini Soundtrack (usually a selection of songs from the main OST).
  • Digital Artbook.

It was confirmed that the additional missions would not be available outside of buying the Season Pass, so if you are interested in playing these extra missions it may be worth considering buying the Digital Deluxe Edition.

Pre-Order Bonuses

Digital Pre-Order

If you pre-order either of the digital versions of the game, you will get the following bonuses:

  • 72-hour Early Access (you get to play on March 15th!).
  • Bonus equipment: the Rebellion weapon, Braveheart weapon, and Lustrous Shield.
  • A PS4 Theme (Playstation Store only).

The bonus equipment comes straight from the Dissidia Final Fantasy series: the Rebellion is the weapon Garland uses, while the Braveheart and Lustrous Shield are the sword and shield used by the Warrior of Light.

While there are no details on how powerful the equipment will be, they will most likely be helpful for at least the early parts of the game, especially if you plan on using Jobs that use 2-handed swords, 1-handed swords, and shields (such as the Swordsman or Swordfighter).

Physical Pre-Order

You can get a couple of extras if you pre-order a physical copy of the game from certain stores:

  • If you pre-order the game from Best Buy, you will also get a steelbook case for your game.
  • Pre-ordering from Gamestop will get you a bonus hat with the game’s title printed on it.

Where to Buy?

Physical copies of Final Fantasy Origin for consoles can be pre-ordered from all major retailers — sadly, there is no physical copy option for PCs. The digital edition can be pre-ordered in the digital store of your chosen console (such as the Playstation Store). If you want to play on PC, head to the Epic Games Store to place your pre-order.

You can also use the official site for the game to redirect you to a pre-ordering page for any version you want.

Japan Exclusive Limited Edition

If you live in Japan, you can order the special Limited Edition of the game, which is only being sold in the Japanese Square Enix Store. This loaded edition comes with plenty of extras:

  • The official Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin artbook, with over 100 pieces of artwork featuring characters, monsters, and locations in the game.
  • The game’s official script book that contains the script of the game’s story.
  • A Vinyl LP with a selection of songs from the game’s OST (along with a record stand), and a digital code for the MP3 versions of the songs.
  • A t-shirt with the game’s artwork.
  • A specially designed box to hold all of these goodies in.

I'm a huge gamer who especially loves the Final Fantasy series. I will play just about any game, especially if it has anything resembling a Dragoon.
