The Lycanthrope (Parts 1 & 2) – Eschalon: Book II Quest

You’ll receive Part 1 of this quest from Xed in the Western Kessian Basin.

Walkthrough

Xed (#1) will tell you that Harpen, the magick dealer in Everdale (Central Farrock Range), is a lycanthrope, and he’ll ask you to kill him. Moreover, he’ll recommend that you simply attack him rather than talk to him first. When you reach Harpen (#2), if you ignore Xed and start a conversation, then Harpen will claim that Xed is the lycanthrope, and he’ll ask you to kill him instead. This will give you two options:

• You can side with Xed. When you tell Harpen that you know he’s a lycanthrope, he’ll switch to his dire wolf form and attack you. You’ll gain 350 xp for killing Harpen in his animal form, and you’ll find a Lycanthrope Pelt on his corpse. Then when you deliver the pelt to Xed, he’ll reward you with 400 gp and 600 xp. You won’t see Part 2 of the quest if you follow this path.

• You can side with Harpen. This will fail the original quest but give you Part 2, so you won’t lose anything. Xed is a regular civilian, so defeating him shouldn’t cause you any problems. You’ll earn 45 xp when Xed dies, and you’ll find a Wolf Hunter’s Ring on his corpse.
  
  When you deliver the ring to Harpen, he’ll reward you with 500 gp and 500 xp. However, if you ask him about the ring, then he’ll switch to his dire wolf form and attack you. For killing Harpen, you’ll receive 350 xp, and you’ll find the Lycanthrope Pelt and the Wolf Hunter’s Ring on his corpse, making this the most lucrative way to go.
  
  Note: Killing Xed during Part 2 of the quest will cause you to fail the True Healer challenge.
