Ruin-Strewn Precipice Walkthrough – Elden Ring

The Ravine-Veiled Village (which is really more of a tunnel) and the Ruin-Strewn Precipice together form the alternate path to the Altus Peninsula that skips the Grand Lift of Dectus. This path offers upgrade materials aplenty, and a boss fight which rewards players with a nice heavy weapon for Faith builds. This section of the guide will guide you through the Ruin-Strewn Precipice, up to the entrance to the boss room.

The Ruin-Strewn Precipice is reached by first going through the Ravine-Veiled Village in Liurnia of the Lakes. In this guide, we’ll be starting from the Ruin-Strewn Pecipice site of grace. The images below indicate how to reach the Ravine-Veiled Village, since it’s the only path to the Ruin-Strewn Precipice.

From the Ruin-Strewn Precipice site of grace, take the nearby elevator up to the next level. Continue northwest to the wooden stairs, making sure to grab the Cracked Crystal from the wall at the base of the stairs. At the top of the stairs there is one of the little sneaky fellas you encountered in the tunnels, and a bat that will swoop down from the right. After a few attacks on the first foe, roll backwards down the stairs to avoid the bat damaging you.

Once they’re both dealt with, continue back up the stairs and up the next flight as well, where you’ll find two bats feasting on a corpse, one bat roosting around the corner to the left, and one watching from the ledge above. If you have ranged options, use them on the right-hand upper bat, then take out the two on the ground, and then deal with the one around the corner up high last.

Grab the Golden Rune [4] from the corpse, then continue northwest between the columns and take a right — you should see a lantern sitting on a pile of rocks. You can jump up these rocks to get atop the column next to them [1]. Then walk west a bit and jump to the south, then once more to the east [2], where you’ll find a Somber Smithing Stone [3]. Jump down to where the bats were and continue northwest.

You should see a ladder on your left going downwards on the edge of the cliff — if you reach the ladder going up, you went too far. Take the ladder down and walk southeast on the wooden walkway, backstabbing the miner you encounter and grabbing the Cracked Crystal he was so diligently mining. Continue around the platform and you’ll find a Somber Smithing Stone [4] in the rocks there. Grab it and go back the way you came and up the ladder. When you get to the top, you’ll be facing another ladder to the north. Go past it and grab the Smithing Stone [4] from the wall, then climb the ladder.

You’ll find yourself in a large open area. Head to the right and find yet another set of bats feasting on yet another dry-looking corpse. Kill them and do your own, somewhat less disgusting scavenging to receive a Golden Rune [5] — there is also a Smithing Stone [4] in the rocks just past the corpse. Make your way cautiously west, where you should see a harpy sitting on a raised wooden platform. There are four bats roosting above her, so don’t just charge in.

Summons are available here, so if you don’t have a way to pick off the roosting bats from a distance, summons can be a good way to swing this fight in your favor. Once you take care of the enemies here, make sure you grab the two Smithing Stone [4] from the wall to the right of the wooden platform. Then go onto the platform with the ladder and climb up. From the upper platform, jump to the small ledge that rings the nearby column to the northeast, and go right around the column to find a Golden Rune [5]. You’ll then have to jump back — see the second image below for the best approach.

Now continue forward around the corner on the wooden walkway to find another small tentacle monster, plus a second one in the bushes just ahead. Be careful, as a bat will swoop down as you approach the bushes. Make your way further southeast on the narrow rock path — past the third little tentacle monster, there’s a bat in the darkness, and just past it you’ll find yet another ladder. Walk past the ladder and look right to find a Smithing Stone [4], then climb the ladder.

You’ll find yourself in an open area, with paths leading left and right. Turn left to head southwest, and slowly approach the enemies there. Clear the nearby tentacle balls, then consider summoning a spirit to help you with the two harpies that sit on the nearby platform. If you’re low on health at this point, or just hate fighting flying monsters, you can pull the harpies away from the platform, then sprint past them and ride the elevator up to the site of grace.

Be careful blocking vs the harpies, as they have devastating grab attacks that cannot be blocked. Instead, roll through their attacks, especially the death magic that they’ll sometimes cast. Once both harpies are down, you can grab the Smithing Stone [4] from the southern wall (relative to where you came up the ladder), as well as the Smithing Stone [3] from the corpse under the tent just in front of the raised platform.

Then go up onto the platform where the harpies were to find an elevator. Before you ride it, look down off the platform to the south, where you’ll see a corpse with Lost Ashes of War. Then follow the ledge east around the platform and look northeast — you’ll see a corpse on the ledge there who holds a Rune Arc. Grab it and then ride the elevator up and tap the Ruin-Strewn Precipice Overlook site of grace, but don’t rest there yet, as this will bring back the harpies. Instead, ride the elevator back down and head north through the little camp until you find a ladder on the other side of the area.

Climb the ladder and continue across the wooden plank that leads to the nearby rooftops. On the far northeastern end of the roof is a corpse guarded by a large tentacle monster and some of its little buddies. You don’t need to fight them, but you do need to aggro the big monster to get it to move away from the corpse. Once you’ve pulled it out a bit, just run/roll/jump past and grab the Serpent-God’s Curved Sword off of the corpse, then run back the way you came (making sure to also grab the Smithing Stone [3] from the other corpse). In the corner on the right while you’re running back, you can grab another smithing stone from the wall. Once out of aggro range you can teleport to the Ruin-Strewn Precipice Overlook site of grace.

There you can rest, and when you’re ready, head into the tunnel to the west to find the fog gate that leads to Magma Wyrm Makar.
