The Automaton Rebellion – Dungeon Siege III Main Quest

This guide provides a walkthrough for a main quest in part 2 of Dungeon Siege III. Along with the walkthrough is a map and legend, which provides additional information.

Background

The Dapper Old Gent has unleashed an army of automatons upon Stonebridge — probably the same automatons that his gang of thieves were abducting from the city streets. The automatons are besieging the Meisterhall, and they’ll destroy the whole city if they aren’t stopped.

Walkthrough

Protect the Meisters

To protect the Meisters, you’ll first have to reach them, which will involve you making your way through the Lower Ward and fighting numerous automatons, including Firestorm XE (#2) and Thunderstorm CE (#3). When you reach the Meisters (#4), you’ll discover that they’re fine, and that the Dapper Old Gent can be found through a nearby Causeway (Exit W).

Follow the Dapper Old Gent

When you follow the Dapper Old Gent through the Causeway, you’ll arrive in a small round area. The Gent will be standing on a platform, but he’ll be protected by a magical barrier, so you won’t be able to attack him directly.

Defeat the Dapper Old Gent

To defeat the Dapper Old Gent, you’ll have to destroy the machines around him. This will proceed in stages. First off, you’ll need to destroy some Causeway machines. These machines will continuously bring automatons into the area, so you won’t get anywhere fighting the automatons. You should focus on the machines. Then once you’ve destroyed the Causeway machines, you’ll be able to attack and destroy a barrier machine, which in turn will allow you to attack the Gent’s platform and reduce its health by 25%.

The first two times you complete a stage, you’ll only have to deal with four Causeway machines and one barrier machine, but the third time, you’ll get double that amount, and so you’ll have to destroy the Causeway machines quickly or else you’ll get overwhelmed. Meanwhile, while you’re dodging automatons and destroying machines, you’ll also need to avoid some spells from the Gent. These spells are telegraphed (for example, you’ll see a white marking on the ground where an explosion is going to take place), so you shouldn’t have too much trouble avoiding them.

Once you’ve destroyed the Gent’s platform, he’ll flee through the Causeway — right into the arms of the Meisters, who will capture him. When you show up, you’ll have to decide what to do with him. You’ll have two choices:

  • You can protect the Gent by claiming him for the Legion. This will earn you the Legion Redeemer deed (+3 will).

  • You can allow the Gent to be arrested and probably hanged. This will earn you the Lord Protector of Stonebridge deed (+3 stamina).

Either way, you’ll receive 2810 xp at the end of the quest.
