Background

You’ll receive this quest when you talk to Devotee Lugosh (#1) after leaving the Deeps of Gruldur with the Helm of Fire.

Walkthrough

Lugosh will tell you that King Arombolosh “went stark, raving mad” after you left for the Deeps, and that he and his guards have started killing people. He’ll then lead you to the entrance of the throne room (#2), where you’ll find High Priest Xolgorax and Prince Arom waiting for you.

Xolgorax will conjecture that the carbuncle you brought back from Tallon might be at the root of the problem, and he’ll ask you to subdue the king and remove the gem from his crown. Talking to Xolgorax will also earn you 50 experience points.

Inside the throne room, you’ll find King Arombolosh guarded by over 20 insane guards. The most straightforward way to complete the battle is just to advance slowly, killing the guards who get in your way. None of the battles should be too tough, and you’ll be able to rest in between them. If you complete the battle in this way, then the king will grant you another reward from Treasurer Otosh (#3).

The more complicated method is to defeat the king without killing any of the guards. If your group can sneak, then you might try sneaking along the sides of the throne room to reach the king undetected. You can also try using some disabling spells (like Sleep of a Thousand Sheep) to reduce the number of guards attacking you while you’re fighting the king. If your party is pretty powerful, then you might even be able to just rush the king, and defeat him even with all of the guards attacking you. If you complete the battle in this way, then the king will grant you two more rewards from Treasurer Otosh (#3).

Either way, after the battle you’ll receive 250 experience points, and King Arombolosh will assemble the Armor of Fire for you. High Priest Xolgorax will then inform you that he’s studied the portal in Aldessia’s Chambers (#1), and that you should now be able to use it to reach the Fire Falls.
