Spiderspike Adventure: The Hollow 1 – Dungeons & Dragons Tactics

Overview

1 – Arrival

Upon arriving in this dank forest, a Crow will fly up to your party and tell you to stay along the path (yes, the Crow speaks). The creature’s “mistress” wants your party to stick to the path, as the outer areas of Spiderspike Hollow are too dangerous. Why would you listen to a Crow?


2 – Monstrous Spider

This is the first of several Monstrous Spiders you’ll be facing in Spiderspike Hollow. These arachnids have 23 hit points, an Armor Class of 14, and are worth 83 experience points per party member when killed.


3 – Monstrous Spider

Another Monstrous Spider awaits your party in this dark cavern.


4 – Monstrous Spider

Another Monstrous Spider awaits your party in this dark cavern.


5 – Monstrous Spiders

Two Monstrous Spiders will attack your party as you make your way through this debris-strewn area.


6 – Monstrous Spider

Another Monstrous Spider awaits your party in this dark cavern.


7 – Monstrous Spider

Another Monstrous Spider awaits your party in this dark cavern.


8 – Exit

This tunnel leads down into the lower area of Spiderspike Hollow, where a major battle awaits. You’ll be forced to exit the adventure once you’ve completed the lower area, so you may want to finish exploring the rest of this map before continuing on.


9 – Wolves

Four Wolves will ambush your party as you continue along the path.


10 – Goblins

A pair of Goblins guard this curved section of the path.


11 – Werewolf and Guardian

When you reach the end of the path, you’ll discover a Werewolf trying to break down the eastern door. Combat is inevitable, so equip whatever silver weapons and ammunition you’ve picked up and slay the beast. When it’s dead, each character in your party will receive 125 experience points.

Afterwards, you can approach the door to strike up a conversation with a so-called “Guardian” inquiring about a password. Since you probably don’t know it yet, you won’t be making it past the door at the moment. The Guardian tells you to leave Spiderspike Hollow and seek out the Witch of Undome to obtain the password.

For whatever reason, your party will automatically be kicked from the adventure if you don’t know the password. Therefore, you may want to avoid speaking to the Guardian until you’re ready to tell it what it wants to know. You won’t actually learn the password until you’ve finished the The Tower 1 and The Tower 2 quests. At that point, you’ll be approached by a Crow asking you to aid its mistress. It will reveal the password (“Elletherel”), which you can then recite to the Guardian on a return trip to this location. This will cause the door to open, allowing you to reach the eastern exit at area #19.


12 – Goblin

A single Goblin lurks in this dark corner.


13 – Goblin, Bugbear, and Troll

This chamber is home to a massive Troll, as well as a Goblin and Bugbear. The Troll sports over 50 hit points and is capable of regenerating 5 hit points every round. For whatever reason, though, the use of fire or acid doesn’t appear to be necessary in order to finish the creature off. Once slain, each member of your party will earn 250 experience points.


14 – Goblins and Bugbears

You’ll have to deal with a pair of Goblins and Bugbears to make it through this area.


15 – Troll

A second Troll inhabits this room.


16 – Troll

Yet another Troll for your party to tackle.


17 – Bugbears and Goblin

Three Bugbears and a single Goblin reside in this chamber.


18 – Bugbear

One last Bugbear is holed up in this alcove.


19 – Exit

Once you’ve spoken the password to the Guardian at area #11, you’ll be allowed access to this exit point. Leaving the map via this exit unlocks the Undome location on your world map.
