Walkthrough

Eglandaer will want to tell you “a tale of loss and sorrow,” but he won’t want to do it out in the open, and so he’ll invite you to his room upstairs in the King Crab Inn (#2). When you meet him there, he’ll inform you that he is of the house of Gandavum, but that the entire house except for him was massacred by a tribe of orcs. He’ll then reveal that he’s spent his fortune tracking down those orcs and having them assassinated, and that he’s finally found the last one — Victoria, the adopted daughter of Mayor Cecil. Finally, he’ll ask you to kill Victoria and bring back her amulet as proof of the deed.

You’ll find Victoria upstairs in the town hall (#3). You’ll have four choices for how to proceed:

  • You can kill Eglandaer. This will earn you 750 xp. To complete the quest, you’ll just need to tell Victoria that she’s now safe.

  • You can kill Victoria. This will earn you 645 xp, and afterwards you’ll be able to start a conversation where you’ll get to pick between being Compassionate (critical chance +3%) or Heartless (hit chance +20% when backstabbing). After picking up Victoria’s Amulet, when you return to Eglandaer, he’ll grant you a reward chest and then leave.

  • You can ask Victoria to give you her amulet as proof of her death. You’ll have to win a rock-paper-scissors mini-game to convince her to part with the token, but you’ll earn 300 xp when you win. When you show Victoria’s Amulet to Eglandaer, he’ll grant you a reward chest and then leave.

  • You can have Eglandaer arrested. For this case, you’ll need to head over to Captain Aureus in the Legion Headquarters (#4). When you ask him to arrest Eglandaer, you’ll get to choose between being Righteous (leadership +1) or Renegade (pickpocketing +1). However, Aureus will demand proof before he does anything. To get proof, you’ll need to pickpocket the Bloody Amulet from Eglandaer. This will require you to have a Pickpocketing skill of at least 3.

When you show the amulet to Aureus, he’ll send a legionnaire to arrest Eglandaer, and you’ll receive 300 xp plus a point of reputation. You’ll need to witness the arrest (you might have to wait a minute for the legionnaire to show up), but afterwards you’ll be able to tell Victoria that she’s now safe.

Regardless of your choice, you’ll also earn 1800 xp at the end of the quest.
