Make Titus Give Up Ruby’s Location Walkthrough

Background

You’ll trigger this task at the end of the task Get the Whole Story from Titus, when Klaasje (#2) tells you that a woman named Ruby orchestrated the murder cover-up.

Walkthrough

When you ask Titus (#2) about Ruby, he’ll just assume you’re looking for a fall guy for the murder, and he won’t talk to you. To change his mind, you’ll need to pass an “impossible” Logic check with him and convince him that Ruby could have committed the crime. To make the check easier, you’ll need to beef up your theory with means, motive, and opportunity:

• Means. Find the Antique Belle-Magrave Rifle in the Doomed Commercial Area (#3), and complete the task The Jam Mystery (Ruby’s a criminal, and guns can be found all over Martinaise).
• Motive. Pass a “legendary” Drama check with Klaasje (#2) and threaten to arrest her, so Klaasje throws Ruby under the bus (Ruby was jealous of the hanged man).
• Opportunity. Notice the winch in the back of the Whirling-in-Rags (#1), and complete the task Explore the Whirling’s Secret Passages (Ruby had a quick way to get up to and down from the roof, which is where the shot likely came from).

When you pass the check, you’ll present your case to Titus, and he’ll gradually come around to the idea that Ruby might have been involved. This will complete the task and earn you 70 xp.

Afterwards, Titus will then reveal that Ruby skipped town when you showed up, and he’ll speculate that since she isn’t in Martinaise East, she must have crossed the water lock and is hiding somewhere in Martinaise West. So he’ll recommend that you ask around in the fishing village there. This will trigger the task Ask about Ruby in the Village.
