Description

This area is hard to navigate due to the pipes and lava which block your way. The lava appears as water on your map but don’t walk on it as it is instant death unless you have a ridiculously high fire resistance that only a very high level character could wear. The exit you need to take is blocked by lava. Very close by to the exit (but inaccessible) are two valves that you must close. To close them you must go past the 2nd save point to the exit to the Lower Lake of Fire, and then go up the ladders you find in that area to access the valves. Once the valves are closed you may use the blocked exit.

This is a hard area to navigate so let’s set which direction is north. When you first enter this area position yourself so the ladder is above you and the save point is below on the map. The top of the screen is now north. The path to the two exits is to the southwest and the 2nd save point is between them. From the 1st save point, no chests are down the path to the northwest. Chests are directly north around a small pool of lava, directly east against a south wall, southeast around a thin lava moat, and north and west of the route that leads to the 2nd save point. A final chest is against the west wall next to the 1st entrance to the Lower Lake of Fire.

Lava monsters will rise out of the lava, pick balls of it up and throw it at you for large amounts of damage and set you on fire. They also have a strong fire melee attack with stun chance and are immune to fire and resistant to poison. If you aren’t careful, a lava monster can knock you into lava for instant fiery death. It is possible to hit lava monsters with melee without stepping in the lava, but that isn’t a good way to fight them. You can stay out of their range and hit them with ranged attacks, but if you do that anything they drop will be in the lava and be inaccessible. To kill them and get their treasure, get close and block. As soon as they start to swing at you, run away. They will stop making any more ranged attacks and will follow you and try and hit you in melee. Since they are slow to both move and attack, attacking them straight out should kill them before they do much damage to you.

Most Efficient Route

Follow the directions above to find chests. Go away from 1st save point to each the NW, N, NE, SE, and W, returning to the save point each time. Then go SW past the 2nd save point to the exit down to the Lower Lake of Fire. When the valves are shut, return to the 2nd save point and exit via the previously blocked exit.

Fastest Route

Go southwest following the route past the 2nd save point to the exit down to the Lower Lake of Fire. When the valves are shut, return to the 2nd save point and exit via the previously blocked exit.
