Perfect Party #1 – Baldur’s Gate II

This guide is a collection of tips for forming a strong party in Baldur’s Gate II. These tips were provided by GameBanshee users.

Overview

This party is a powerful GOOD-ALIGNED SELF-CREATED (multiplayer) party and includes a paladin, two fighters to dual to mages, a ranger, an illusionist-thief, and another ranger to dual to a cleric. All characters should be as close to chaotic good as possible. Here is how you should design each character for the highest potential:

The paladin should use the cavalier kit and specialize in two-handed weapon style and two-handed swords. If he/she were to wield the Carsomyr he/she would obliterate all that impedes his/her progress. He/she needs 15 strength, 15 dexterity, 15 constitution, 5 intelligence, 13 wisdom, and 17 charisma, at least. See if you can get better str, dex, and con by rolling higher than 80 on combined stats.

The first fighter should use the berserker kit, dual to a mage at level 9, and specialize in two-weapon style and axes. If he/she were to wield the Stonefire Axe and the Frost Reaver, he/she would be a very adaptable fighter that can cause a horrid amount of damage with a high chance to hit and yet be a mage at the same time. He/she needs 18 strength, 18 dexterity, 18 constitution, 18 intelligence, 5 wisdom, and 3 charisma.

The second fighter should use the kensai kit, dual to a mage at level 9, and specialize in two-weapon style, katanas, and long swords. If he/she was to wield the Daystar and the Celestial Fury, he/she would both be devastating to evil/undead and be able to dish out a great deal of damage; awesome for a mage! He/she needs 18 strength, 18 dexterity, 15 constitution, 18 intelligence, 8 wisdom, and 3 charisma, at least. Try to get better con and wis by rolling more than 80 on combined stats.

The first ranger should be an elf, use the archer kit, and specialize in two-handed weapon style and shortbows. If he/she were to wield the Shortbow of Gesen, he/she would unleash a furious assault without the needs for arrows. Remember you are unable to utilize arrows (when using the Shortbow of Gesen) with this character, that’s what your gnome is for. He/she needs 18 strength, 19 dexterity, 17 constitution (maximum constitution for an elf), 6 intelligence, 16 wisdom, and 3 charisma. One character (your paladin) with high charisma is enough.

The illusionist-thief will only be available as a gnome and he should specialize in two-handed weapon style and shortbows. In second priority you should specialize in scimitars and two weapon style. If he/she were to wield the Tuigan Bow, he/she would be an awesome ranged attacker. The Tuigan Bow is a wonderful weapon and is nearly as good as the Shortbow of Gesen. Remember to utilize arrows of dispelling (mages), arrows of detonation (groups), and arrows of piercing (armored). He/she needs 18 strength, 18 dexterity, 18 constitution (although 16 consitution is all that’s needed since only fighters obtain a greater HP bonus for beyond 16), 18 intelligence, 5 wisdom, and 3 charisma.

The second ranger should dual to cleric immediately and specialize in two-weapon style, flail, and warhammer. If he/she were to wield the Crom Faeyr and the Flail of Ages +3, he/she would both have great strength and great speed; a truly lethal mixture. He/she needs 18 strength (Crom Faeyr will boost to 25), 18 dexterity, 18 constitution, 4 intelligence, 18 wisdom, and 4 charisma. Intelligence is, amazingly, nearly worthless for a priest but go ahead and boost it if you get a really good roll.

All of this has been researched for a VERY LONG time and all of this information is totally true. This design is the most powerful setup for a party. The different character races/classes, proficiencies, abilities, and weapon choices are all based on real data and a consensus between gamers. HOWEVER, I receive new ideas and pieces of information on, “The Perfect Party” all the time.

I love RPGs, MMOs, and weird little indie games. Anything that lets me build and decorate or just has a really good story. I've spent hundreds of hours in Bethesda games and even more time modding them. I also play a lot of World of Warcraft.
