Frequently Asked Questions – Baldur’s Gate II

This guide is a collection of frequently asked questions and answers for Baldur’s Gate II.

FAQ

Q: I cannot travel to outdoor zones such as Windspear Hills or de’Arnise Keep, as they are greyed out. How do I travel to these locations?

A: To travel out of Athkatla for the first time, you must access the City Gates location and actually walk out through the gates. After “zoning” out of the gates, any outdoor zones that were greyed out before should now be accessible.

Q: How do I get to the Underdark?

A: Once you’ve ventured to Brynnlaw and completed the Asylum, you will have the opportunity to either go straight to the Underdark or first travel to the Sahuagin City via ship. Either way, you’ll end up mingling with the Drow.

Q: How do I access the Sahuagin City?

A: As stated above, to reach the Sahuagin City, you must leave Brynnlaw via ship. If you exit through the portal in the Asylum, you will be brought directly to the Underdark (thus missing the Sahuagin City).

Q: How do I get to the Ghoul Lord area in the GameBanshee walkthrough?

A: When you descend into the Cult of the Unseeing Eye’s depths (via the pit), you will be on a bridge filled with undead. Two doorways just north of the bridge will lead to the area where the Ghoul Lord resides.

Q: Where do I get a stake to defeat the vampire Dace in the Asylum Dungeon 3?

A: The kobold shaman near the Kurtulmak crystal drops one.

Q: How do I access Ribald Barterman’s “secret stash” in the Adventurer’s Mart?

A: Once you have completed and emerge from the Underdark, Ribald will offer to show you his “secret stash” for 50 gp.

Q: I’m in Chapter 6. Now what? Where is the elven city of Suldanesselar?

A: Before gaining entrance to the city, you must first retrieve the Rynn Lanthorn from Bodhi’s lair. Return the Rynn Lanthorn to Elhan in the Elven Camp and he will bring you to the entrance in the Forest of Tethyr.

Q: I have become a Fallen Paladin. How do I regain my Paladin status?

A: If you have the Paladin stronghold, you can complete all of the class-specific quests associated with it to regain your Paladin status. See our Paladin quest page for more information.

Q: I have become a Fallen Ranger. How do I regain my Ranger status?

A: If you have the Ranger stronghold, you can complete all of the class-specific quests associated with it to regain your Ranger status. See our Ranger quest page for more information.

Q: How do I defeat Kangaxx, Firkraag, or other powerful enemies?

A: Many strategies on defeating the toughest foes in Baldur’s Gate II are available in our Strategy Guides section.

Q: My weapons don’t affect (insert powerful monster here). Why not?

A: Many of the more powerful creatures in Faerun require powerful weapons to affect them. For example, to damage an Iron Golem, you must wield a weapon of +3 enchantment or better.

Q: These Mind Flayers are killing me in only a few hits. What’s going on?

A: Mind Flayers drain intelligence upon each successful hit. If a character loses all of his intelligence, he or she dies. For help on defeating these powerful adversaries, see our Strategy Guides section.

I love RPGs, MMOs, and weird little indie games. Anything that lets me build and decorate or just has a really good story. I've spent hundreds of hours in Bethesda games and even more time modding them. I also play a lot of World of Warcraft.
