Alpha Protocol E3 Previews

Two more previews of Alpha Protocol have surfaced on the web, both of which are presumably based on the game’s E3 demonstration.

From GamePro:

Almost every RPG of note has set itself in one of a handful of trite settings, be it olden-times fantasy-land, sleek and sterile futurescape, or a decrepit and dilapidated dystopia. Alpha Protocol earns major points from the get-go with its setting–a modern-day world packed to the brim with espionage and intruige. Like any RPG worth its salt, you can customize Alpha Protocol out the yinh-yang, making the character’s looks and his weapons your own.

And Mercury News:

The whole combat and leveling system reminds me of the one in Mass Effect. Thornton can even let his armor regenerate if he can stay out of the line of fire for awhile. Although it may not be totally original, the Obsidian team seems to do a good job of molding together these action and RPG elements and translating them to the world of international espionage.

Where the Alpha Protocol breaks new ground is in the setting and theme and how both impacts the gameplay. As Thornton searched for missiles in a Russia train yard, he comes across a potential ally in the VCI, otherwise known as the Russian Mafia. If he makes headway with its leader, Sie, he can make his life easier pitting the VCI against their common enemy.
