X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse Reviews

A trio of new reviews for Activision and Raven’s X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse hit the web over the past week. The first is at GameClubCentral with an overall score of 9/10:

Overall XML2 is one hell of a sequel to the original console game, and we thank Activision for bringing those of us in the PC world a chance at playing it. A strong storyline, well represented characters, and superb game play make this a must have for your action/RPG collection. Also worth note is the PC version is $10 cheaper than any console port, making this an all-around good gaming bet.

The second is at The Entertainment Depot with an overall score of 9/10:

This is the kind of game that Untold Legends should have been, and I suspect is the kind of game that many PSP owners have been waiting for. The problems of the platform are unfortunately present: frequent loading and the contrast which makes it difficult to spot enemies. Beyond the fact that there is just about every character you could ever want to play or meet, there are great voice-overs for those characters, and the game is littered with beautiful cutscenes and art. It also happens to be a hell of a lot of fun. On the larger, living room consoles, this might be little more than a good release in a genre full of other great titles, but on the PSP, it’s far beyond that and is an absolute must.

And the third is at GameCritics with an overall score of 8.0/10:

All that being said, Rise of Apocalypse is a good game that will give gamers roughly twenty hours of offline entertainment and countless more online with friends. My biggest beef remains the fact that the game feels more like an expansion of last year’s title as opposed to a new experience however, I can’t fault the game for that since it’s becoming something of an industry standard. I will say this, though those who’veplayed last year’s X-Men Legends have essentially played this year’s game as well. The addition of online play is excellent, but everything else is just as it was last year which makes it hard to justify spending $50 on it. If you missed last year’s game though, or are just a hardcore comic fan with a hankering to kick butt with people online, then Rise of Apocalypse is definitely something to put on your holiday wishlist.
