The Lord of the Rings Online: Siege of Mirkwood Reviews

It’s time to chalk up a few more (mostly) favorable reviews for Turbine’s latest expansion pack for The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar.

IGN gives it a 9.0/10:

For players butting the level cap, this is a welcome expansion and the tweaks in combat and previously launched features have improved the gameplay, which wasn’t shabby to begin with. Turbine has managed to create Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings in the context of an MMO and yet kept true to the lore (even if the Runekeeper class is a bit of a stretch). There will be years left in the life of this game as Turbine takes the story onward toward Rohan and beyond.

Games Radar gives it an 8/10:

If you’ve yet to be tempted by the series, or indeed any MMO, this is a reasonable place to start a genuinely massive fantasy world where lowly hobbits rub shoulders with evil wraiths. Crucially, with this expansion pack and regular updates it looks as if it’s going to be around for some time.

And Games On Net gives it a 3/5:

Overall, despite the initial feeling that this is a paid content patch, there is a lot to like about Siege of Mirkwood. Past subscribers owe it to themselves to check it out, if only to experience the conclusion of the Mines of Moria storyline and the skirmish system and for newcomers, the 10 day trial beckons. It will never be World of Warcraft, but then again, why should it be? For a story driven online role playing experience, LOTRO can’t be beat.
