Star Wars: The Old Republic E3 Previews

A few more previews of LucasArts and BioWare’s Star Wars: The Old Republic are now online, courtesy of last week’s E3.

We start off with Crispy Gamer:

Expect varied classes on either side of the Force. One demo scenario featured a Bounty Hunter on Hutta trying to win the Great Hunt, a contest sponsored by the galaxy’s greatest bounty hunters, the Mandalorians. Old Republic will have an entirely new storyline for each class in each faction. So, a Bounty Hunter working for the bad guys will experience different missions and different consequences than one working for the Republic.

Then we move to The Examiner:

Speaking as a person who has played the original The Empire Strikes Back, the graphics look nothing short of incredible and game play promises to be both enjoyable and intuitive. However, it’s the ability to choose from the beginning whether to be Jedi, Sith, or forgo the decision all together that has me hooked. It’s just enough RPG without being annoying, you know?

And finish things off at GameOn:

As well as working on a deep and complex plot, BioWare are concentrating very hard on making the gameplay itself different from other MMORPG titles. In the demonstration two of the game’s classes were shown, The Bounty Hunter and The Smuggler. The Bounty Hunter is designed to live up to everyone’s morally ambiguous desire to enslave people and generally fly around with a jet pack and wrist-mounted flamethrower. In the section we saw, the player character was looking to take part in “The Great Hunt” an event across the galaxy to find the greatest hunter who must prove himself in a series of tests. Upon receiving his goals he arrived at the planet Hutta (home of the Hutts) and battled with some enemies. The combat was dynamic and involved much more than most MMORPG’s and wasn’t just stacking up attack commands.
