BioShock E3 Preview

The folks at Next Level Gaming have conjured up a detailed preview of BioShock, after seeing Irrational Games’ first-person RPG firsthand during this year’s E3.

Before we go into the actual demo, I have to tell you how unbelievably eye-popping this game is. Without a doubt one of the top 5 games graphically at the entire show. BioShock runs on a highly modified Unreal 3 engine. The environments are very “art-deco” circa 1950’s. Plenty of neon and color to go around. After all, it’s a utopia. And because it’s all underwater, we were told there is an artist team put together just for the water. We’re told it will be the best water effects you have ever seen in a game. But BioShock is also a very spooky and creepy looking game at the same time. Partially because of how the environment can change in certain areas to include more tech, and how the “bad people” in the game look and react. There will be security panels and cameras, things to hack into and control. We were told that an alarm going off in the city was a really bad thing for you. So as we started the demo he kind of crawled through a corridor that was leaking water and starting to show on the floor. So right away he had to move. There is a great deal of attention paid to bring isolated and alone. You are really the only one left in the world that hasn’t gone insane. You have no partners or fellow “soldiers” to rely on or order around. It’s just you, and whoever was left that isn’t playing with a full deck. Then he came into a open area where we saw a corpse on the ground. No idea how it got there, or why. As we get into the open area we also see this “thing” crawling on the ceiling. She looks human (and you could tell it was a she, but really mutated. Adam seems to be like crack, because this nasty must have had a whole lot of it. I’m guessing this Adam mutated this thing to the point of looking like a real monster; but still humanoid.
